My training in massage therapy began in early 1999 with the Therapeutic Massage Practitioner program at an American Massage Therapy Association-accredited massage school, the Central California School of Body Therapy. There, I studied Ethics and professionalism, Integrated Massage Therapy and Therapeutic Applications, Swedish Relaxation Massage, Contemporary Therapeutic Massage, Sports Massage, Passive Joint Movement, and the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology. This provided a solid foundation on which to build! After completing the Therapeutic Massage Practitioner program, I continued my education and training at Hirudaya School of Healing Arts in San Luis Obispo, where further studies included Deep Tissue Sculpting and Body-Mind Therapies, Shiatsu, Jin Shin Acutouch, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, Heated Stone Therapy, Prenatal and Postpartum Massage, Reflexology, Chair Massage, MayoFascial Release, Manual Lymphatic Drainage; and advanced pathology, anatomy, kinesiology and physiology. Other areas of personal interest and study are metabolic health and healing and reducing chronic pain and inflammation, through whole-food, low carbohydrate, animal-based nutrition; clinical aromatherapy; and visual journaling and sketching for stress management, relaxation, creativity, and self-expression. I have been a member in good standing with Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals since 2003.
I began my massage therapy career as an independent contractor in 2000. Since then, I’ve combined my experience of working in chiropractic, spa, and retreat settings to deliver a truly unique treatment in my own private practice. I integrate the art of relaxation therapy with effective pain relief techniques into a soothing experience where healing of both mind and body can take place.
Education is a lifelong process and my desire to stay current with techniques, information and research helps to ensure my clients are receiving the most effective techniques for relieving pain, improving function and living a healthier lifestyle. Addressing your questions and health needs are of tremendous importance. If I can’t provide you with the service you’re seeking, or knowledgeably answer a question you may have, I will do my best to research that topic or find someone who can!
I believe one of the greatest benefits of massage is its ability to create a deep sense of well-being and satisfy the need for a caring, nurturing touch. Since 1999 I have provided well over 15,000 massages. My practice includes a wide range of clients, from all walks of life: people who are seeking to improve a variety of health and wellness related issues such as those suffering from general pain and soreness, those suffering from depression and anxiety; professional and collegiate athletes; pregnant mothers; office professionals; recovering cancer patients; military veterans with PTSD; youth dealing with ADHD, the elderly, those dealing with fibromyalgia, RSD, or past injuries and just looking for results; those looking for injury care; pre and post op work; chronic pain and RSI; disease management for diabetes, lupus, chronic fatigue; people working through body issues as a result of childhood trauma; clients seeking massage for stress management due to high stress occupations and lifestyles, as well as general relaxation and over all health maintenance.
I wholeheartedly believe in the power of the mind, body and spirit to maintain and restore wellness, and the body’s innate ability to heal given proper nutrition and the opportunity to do so. I work to restore individual awareness of body and balance. I am committed to my clients’ satisfaction and total wellness; and to providing them with the special consideration every individual needs. In such a fast paced, impersonal world, I make every effort to foster genuine care and compassion for each person I touch; to put them at ease and give them a sense of importance. Bringing empathy to my work, actively listening to your concerns, providing thoroughly attentive sessions are top priorities. My goals as a Massage Practitioner are to bring comfort, balance, and healing into the lives of my clients and to help them achieve their own wellness goals in a realistic, unpretentious, and affordable manner.
I enjoy spending time with my husband of 30+ years and our sons, as well as daily sketching, visiting Yosemite National Park, spending time in nature, and walking. When I’m not massaging clients, I’m usually working with my husband at his cabinet shop (Wells Woodworks & Custom Cabinets). I genuinely like helping people reach their optimal health and educating others about the benefits of massage therapy and the healing qualities of touch. I truly enjoy the balance that massage therapy brings to my life. I never knew just how much I would fall in love with this work. It has enriched my life beyond words and I hope you’ll let it do the same for you. I believe that massage is not just a luxury for the few, but an acquirable necessity for all. I specialize in relieving and revitalizing those tired, aching muscles and quieting your mind so you can return to your life with a deep sense of calm and focus. I endeavor to tailor your massage to your needs and personal preferences, even if your not sure what they are yet. My touch has been described as both surprisingly strong and effective, yet gentle and relaxing. I invite you to come in and explore the secret to finding a true sense of well being and relaxation that many have already discovered at Away Therapeutic Body Care with Wendi Wells.
